Although a small country, Lesotho is beautiful, culturally rich, safe and affordable. It is essentially an alpine country where villagers on horseback in multicoloured balaclavas and blankets greet your round precipitous bends. Lesotho boasts an assortment of fantastic attractions if the history and heritage of the Basotho people.
PLACES TO VISIT
1.SEHLABATHEBE NATIONAL PARK
As the first designated National Park in Lesotho, it is a hidden gem full of wonderful rock formations unique to this area, massive rock overhangs, small lakes, rock art, rock arches and a beautiful and unique ecosystem of plants, birds and animals. The dams and rivers are a fisherman’s paradise.
2.MAJOR BELL’S TOWER AND FORT
This fortress was used during the Gun Wars of 1880 until 1881 and is situated in the town of Hlotse in the Leribe district. The Tower is still largely intact and a primitive statue of a European is standing nearby a local administration office.
3.ROCK ART
Many painting on the walls is well sheltered in the natural cliff overhangs and huge rock mountains. They have important historical information on them depicting traditions and hunting methods. At Ha Baroana – east of Maseru “the home of the Bushmen” here the San have left a magnificent gallery of painting of animals such as the leopard, lion, eland, blue crane and guinea fowl.
4.DINOSAUR FOOTPRINTS
Lesotho has the world’s largest known sites of dinosaur footprints. A wealth of bones, trees, plants and shells from pre-historic times are some of the earliest known dinosaur fossil discoveries. Locations where some of the footprints can be seen is at Morija, Subeng Stream (between Leribe and Butha-Buthe) and Tsikoane close to Leribe, Moyeni, Matsient and Mohale’s Hoek and Quthing District at Masitise /Ellenberger’s Cave House.
5.HA KOME CAVE DWELLINGS
The dwelings is a National Heritage Site where you can learn about the rich history and culture of the people of Lesotho. The remarkable village have been carved and built under towering sandstone rocks and are still home to the original inhabitants the Basia and Bataung clans.
6.THABA-BOSIU
The Thaba-Bosiu is a National Monument and is considered the birthplace of the Basotho nation. It is one of the most important historical sites in Lesotho and invokes a sense of identity to the proud Basotho nation.
7.SANI PASS AND THE HIGHEST PUB IN AFRICA
View the spectacular views of the Drakensberg Mountain and Northern Lesotho when you drive, hike or mountain biking.
8.AFRISKI
It is the only skiing resort in Lesotho and is located in the Maluti Mountains, near the northern border of Lesotho and South Africa. It is one of only two ski restorts in Southern Africa.

The best way to get around Lesotho is by care hire, taxi, buses and mini buses.Lesotho has a continental climate affected by altitude.
The best time to visit is in summer from October to April. Winter is from May to September and very cold with snow during night times.
