1.THE TRAIN STATION
Built in 1910 the train station is one of Maputo’s most imposing and landmark buildings. Impressive wrought-iron latticework, pillars and verandas are gracing the dark-green exterior. A small exhibition of works by local and visiting artists are on display in the Kulungwana Espaço ArtÃstico. Some of local artists sculptures and paintings are for sale.
2.NATIONAL ART MUSEUM
The museum has an excellent collection of paintings and sculptures by Mozambique’s finest contemporary artists, including Malangatana and Alberto Chissano.
3.FORT
Built in the mid 19th century by the Portuguese the old fort is near a site of an earlier fort. A museum inside the fort displays some of the remnants from the era of early Portuguese. Also on display is the sealed, carved wooden coffin of Ngungunhane – final ruler of the famed kingdom of Gaza.
4.NUCLEO DE ARTE
The artists cooperative has frequent exhibitions featuring the work of up-and-coming artist (some of which is for sale). You can watch and talk to the artist in the pottery and garden areas.
5.PRACA DOS HEROIS MOCAMBICANOS
The star-shaped white-marble structure is notable for its 95m long mural commemorating the revolution and holds in its center the remains of of Mozambique’s revolutionary and post-independence heroes.
6.NATIONAL MONEY MUSEUM
The museum dates back from 1860 and is housed in a restored yellow building on the corner of Rua Consiglieri Pedroso. On display are exhibits of local currency, ranging from early barter tokens to modern-day bills.
7.CATHEDRAL OF NOSSA SENHORA DA CONCEICA
The cathedral is one of Maputo’s most attractive buildings and was completed in 1944. With its simple but imposing lines, soaring white spire, alter work, stained-glass windows and the paintings, it is a must to see!
8.MUSEUM OF THE REVOLUTION
The museum provides you the detailed information of violent struggle done by the brave countrymen in the past against the Portuguese colonialism. Highlights is the maps, pictures and weapons of the fight against forced African labour.

The best way to get around in Maputo is by car Rental, buses, coaches, trains and taxis.
The best time to visit Maputo is between May and November because it is cooler and dry. Between December and April is the rainy season and that can bring washed out roads and occasional flooding.
