Johannesburg, South Africa's biggest city and capital of Gauteng province, began as a 19th-century gold-mining settlement. Its sprawling Soweto township was once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
Johannesburg, otherwise know as the “City of Gold”, is built on a rich history of gold mining. It is also the financial and industrial metropolis of South Africa. It is rapidly evolving into a vibrant hub for arts and culture, the city offers a wide variety of art studios, restaurants, cafes and museums to see.

DAY TRIPS TO LION PARK
Animal lovers can enjoy a close-up experience with wildlife where visitors can interact with the animals. Self-guided tours are permitted or join the game drives in one of the park vehicles to see the lions, cheetahs, zebras, ostriches, wild dogs, hyenas and various species of antelopes. For the photograph lovers a two hour drive in an electric vehicle is also available.

3. Trinket Town at Norwood Rooftop has more than 300 lively stalls at this rooftop market. This is the ideal Sunday outing in Johannesburg taking place from 9am to 4pm on the rooftop parking lot at Norwood Mall.
WHERE TO STAY IN JOHANNESBURG
The upscale northern suburbs such as Rosebank, Santon and Melrose are the best areas to stay. Shopping malls, theaters, museums, cafes and restaurants are minutes away by car or taxi.
Transport is available on Gautrain trains, taxis and buses to explore or take a guided tour.
