Knysna
Knysna
Knysna is a town in the heart of South Africa's beautiful Garden Route. Knysna lies nestled in between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, with a large lagoon that's perfect for water sports and surrounding forests that are great for walking. Knysna is a true gem of South Africa and is a favorite for many holiday makers looking for that something special.
Beaches
If you are looking to unwind and distress in Knysna then a walk on the beach is the best option. Enjoy safe swimming at Bollard Beach, towards the 'top' end of Leisure Island. There is also a sandy beach ideal for sand castles. Towards the 'bottom' end of the island, there's a grassy, shady picnic site with BBQ facilities and toilets. If a long romantic walk on the beach sounds enticing then you can walk all the way from Brenton-on-Sea to Buffalo Bay, which is about five miles.
Townships
For those looking to learn and experience more of the Knysna culture the Township Tour is a great option. Knysna also has a township which has realized that tours are one way to generate some income. You can take a township tour and visit one of the largest Rastafarian communities in South Africa. One of the most popular tours for anyone looking for water activities is the Knysna Lagoon tour. Knysna Lagoon is home to the world's only estuarine seahorse species, but they're so tiny you're unlikely to spot one diving. You will also find the wreck of the Paquita in the Knysna Heads.
